HINO OUTLINES ITS FOCUS ON PEOPLE AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Hino Motors Japan has released the details of its most recent social and environmental initiatives.

Hino's CSR (corporate social responsibility) Report, which is now available for viewing on its global website (www.hino-global.com/csr/), outlines the numerous projects undertaken over the last Japanese financial year to help it achieve its corporate mission:

"To make the world a better place to live by helping people and goods get to where they need to go - safely, economically and with environmental responsibility - while focusing on sustainable development."

Hino's recent CSR activities have been concentrated on the environment, as well as the wellbeing of customers, stakeholders, employees and communities worldwide.

A large proportion of Hino's environmental focus is on the curbing of global warming through a reduction in the amount of CO2 emitted by its vehicles.

The report details Hino's research and development in electric light duty trucks, electric small buses, the Melpha plug-in hybrid bus, and the Profia electric refrigeration truck which uses hybrid battery systems for greater efficiency.

Hino has also worked on efficiency improvements in its existing diesel trucks to help them meet and exceed new efficiency standards, as well as improving emission quality with its new Diesel Particle active Reduction (DPR) system which reduces both nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions at the same time.

The new DPR system was awarded the 11th Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Minister's Prize by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Machine Industry.

Hino Australia Chairman and CEO Steve Lotter said that the company's environmental focus for the long-term health of the planet is admirable, and is pleased that it is continuing to work on providing the best support for communities, stakeholders, investors and employees.

"In addition to coming up with better environmental solutions Hino is working on different projects that improve local environments around the world - including forest clean-ups, tree planting and coral reef restorations in countries including Japan, China, Indonesia and Pakistan," Mr Lotter said.

"Hino also donates trucks to assist areas around the world recovering from natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes and floods."

For its stakeholders, Hino has focused on enhancing the quality of after-sales service for customers and providing initiatives such as economical driving education seminars, deepening bonds with dealers, and ensuring transparency in its dealings with all of its partners.

For employees, Hino reports that it is striving to create workplaces that foster personal growth, provide equal opportunities and sound occupational health and safety practices at all its locations around the world.
