Dave, Nat, Mike and the team at Rabbit Warren Bakery supply mostly retail bakery lines from their café store and have some wholesale customers. They make all of their products in-house by a small committed, professional team of 12.
The bakery was established in 1996, located on Kangaroo Island in South Australia. They are based in the main township of Kingscote which has a population of around 1,500 people.
In August 2019, the Rabbit Warren Bakery opened a new retail outlet with indoor and alfresco dining areas, opening up the old shop space for production.
They quickly found their van was not suitable to transport the volume of product they had to move from the Bakery to the store so they purchased a Hino 300 Series 616 Standard Cab from CMI Hino Adelaide, with a dry freight body and tailgate loader to replace the van, and are very happy they made the decision to upgrade to a truck.
“We chose Hino initially because it was a simple process to upgrade from our Toyota HiAce van through the Toyota Group Company. We have since found the Hino perfect for our needs with the auto transmission, manoeuvrability and handy features. It’s small, easy to park and zippy around town making deliveries simple and efficient for our team from 5ft 4 Kelly (Jonno) Johnson to 6ft 5 Big Mike Warner.” David says.
In January 2020 Kangaroo Island suffered its largest bushfire in recorded history with almost half the entire island burnt almost 220,000 hectares and 65 homes destroyed.
David and the team were asked to cater for the CFS and SA power networks providing over 800 daily lunches for 6 weeks, in addition to supplying the locals, hundreds of volunteers and army personnel helping to fight the fire visiting the store. “This would not have been possible without our awesome team and being able to transport product with our Hino.” David says.
