Hino lifting Waverley Forklifts to new levels
Waverley Forklifts utilises a fleet of 20 trucks, over 2000 Toyota forklifts and 50 Toyota Hilux Service vehicles.

One of Australia’s largest independent forklift operators, Waverley Forklifts, has given the nod to Hino safety and reliability with the recent purchase of not one but two new Hino 500 Series trucks.

“As a Toyota company, Hino is one of our preferred suppliers and business partners,” said Charlie Schwerkolt, owner and operator of Waverley Forklifts, which utilises a fleet of 20 trucks, over 2000 Toyota forklifts and 50 Toyota Hilux Service vehicles.

So impressed was the Waverley Forklifts team when it took delivery of its new Hino 500 Series FM2635 model that it promptly ordered a GH1828 model as well.

The safety-laden new 500 Series Wide Cab models join a 700 Series SS2848 prime mover, 500 Series FE1426 tilt tray and FM2632 tilt tray in the Waverley Forklifts fleet.

“We consider our main product to be ‘service’ in the provision of forklift solutions, rather than just being a forklift company,” said Mr Schwerkolt.

“Based on this, we have grown from 500 forklifts in 2008 to 1000 in 2013 and we now have over 2000 – we need reliable, cost-effective trucks to transport them to customers throughout the three states we operate in,” he continued.

Of particular appeal to Waverley Forklifts was the comprehensive active safety package of the new Hino 500 Series Wide Cab models, including the standard fitment of Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and reverse camera.

Other active safety features include Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), traction control, a driver SRS airbag, ADR84 Front Underrun Protection System (FUPS), Easy Start, Cruise Control and Fog Lamps.

“Another reason we chose the Hino was the flexible grid hole chassis design which suits the type of low profile tilt tray bodies we have.

“Our drivers are impressed by the quietness and comfort of the truck – the extra horse power and 9 speed transmission are the perfect combination.

“When I asked them about the truck, they simply said ‘What’s not to like?”’ continued Mr Schwerkolt.

Waverley Forklifts is a family owned company that evolved from a bottle recycling business that began in 1895 to a forklift and transport specialist in 1973. Over the past forty years, it has grown to be one of the largest fully independent forklift and transport companies in Australia.

Bill Gillespie, Hino Australia General Manager Brand and Franchise Development cited Waverley Forklifts as a perfect example of a business that benefits from the Toyota Group’s complete fleet solution.

“The Toyota Group offers Australia’s one stop shop for sourcing and managing your complete fleet needs of trucks, cars, prestige vehicles, forklifts and finance.” said Mr Gillespie, who handed the keys of the new FM2635 to Mr Schwerkolt.
