PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL – PARK BRAKE LEVER CAMPAIGN

Hino Motor Sales Australia has issued a safety recall on certain 300 Series models produced between 2006 and 2011.

This recall is due to the possibility that the parking brake lever may not engage correctly when the lever is pulled up because the teeth in the ratchet mechanism may balance on the tooth tops. In this condition, the contact may be released by vibration. Then in the worst scenario, the lever may be released due to inadequate spring force inside the ratchet mechanism and the vehicle may start to move.

Hino has not received any reports of this occurring in its vehicles in the Australian markets.

As part of our commitment to customer safety, Hino is taking this precautionary measure to inform customers. Until the parking brake lever is replaced, the vehicle can be operated as usual.

In line with the TIC Code of Practice for safety related recalls, Hino will be writing to owners of affected trucks via mail and advertising in major metropolitan and regional newspapers in the coming weeks. Additional information is also available by calling the Hino Care Centre on 1300 014 466.

Q: What is the situation?

A: This recall is due to the possibility that the parking brake lever may not engage correctly when the lever is pulled up as the teeth within the ratchet mechanism may not lock. If the lever does not lock it could release due to inadequate spring force inside the ratchet mechanism and the vehicle may start to move.

Q: What can I do to prevent this from occurring?

A: Apply the park brake correctly. If the brake lever is pulled up with the proper usage, the teeth will engage correctly and therefore the problem will not occur.

Q: Which and how many vehicles are involved?

A: In the Australian market, there are 9,663 Hino 300 Series involved manufactured between 2006 - 2011.

Q: What is Hino going to do?

A: Replacement parts are currently being shipped to Hino dealerships. Your local dealer will perform the required rectification FREE OF CHARGE. Your local dealer will work with you to minimise any impact on your business.

Q: How long will the repair take?

A: This repair will take approximately one hour subject to vehicle model. Depending upon the dealer’s work schedule, it may be necessary to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time. Selected Hino dealerships also offer late night servicing.
